My Journey

So let's start with where I came from. At the beginning of 2010 I had become content with an in-active lifestyle and ate what I thought was a healthy diet, although my refined carbohydrate intake and portion sizes were way too big! One of the quotes I most resonate with is "Education is the Key", and this is so true, I had no knowledge of what I should have been doing and eating. So on the 31st of December 2009 I walked down to my local Fitness First, and signed myself right up! It was something that took great courage, to look at myself and decide that here is where I would draw the line. I started working out immediately doing cardio, light weights and attending Les Mills classes such as Body Pump and Body Balance. At this time I weighed somewhere just above 70kg, and on my 160cm frame was Overweight. With this new found exercise 3/4 nights per week, the weight began to fall off me. I then decided my diet was next to change and so started the CSIRO health and well-being diet. Which is a book that provides you with all of the education about portion sizes and spreading out your daily food intake into meals across your day, it provides 12 weeks worth of meal plans, and includes recipes for all of the delicious food! I continued to lose more and more weight and by June 2010 I got under 60kg! A huge accomplishment, I was starting to appreciate myself again and was much more confident with my body. I then started attending 'Group Fitness' classes that my gym runs for free with a personal trainer running a circuit using weights and cardio, my weight loss continued although i got stuck at about 58kg for a while. This is where I plateaued, as my gym workouts had become too repetitive and I wasn't really pushing myself harder, just maintaining my current weight and physique. In March 2011 I decided I wanted to look further into my nutrition, and educate myself further on what foods would be best for my body. I went to Body Balancing Nutrition in West Leederville, and after a consultation with a nutritionist was issued a new diet plan where I cut out Simple Carbohydrates, Dairy and Wheat. I would now eat 6 small meals a day each consisting of clean protein, fruits/vegetables, and good fats. My skin became clearer, I had new-found energy and I started losing weight again. By May 2011 I reached my lightest weight of 54kg, although after a holiday to Bali, and eating whatever I wanted I put the weight back on. I started working harder when I got back, and had one of the personal trainers write me up a weights program sectioning 3 weights days; Abs/Core, Upper Body and Lower Body combined with Body Attack and Body Balance and running on the treadmill and HIIT on the cross-trainer. My lean muscle mass has definitely increased and on beginning my sports modelling training I weighed 56.6kg.

I have now started training with my personal trainer Tarashakti Burke (a former competitive sports model) completing 2 one-on-one sessions and 2 group conditioning classes a week, as well as Body Attack, 1km treadmill runs and Body Balance. My first session was on the 22 Sep 2011, and in a week and a half I already can see the difference in my muscle tone and I've dropped more weight now weighing 55kg. It's so motivating to see a difference already, I'm so excited to push my body and mind to new extremes and reap all of the rewards I deserve. In my Weight loss journey I have come so far and already accomplished a massive feat of losing 15kg(or more) but that road has now come to an end, and instead of being complacent I have chosen to run right onto the next road and see just how far I can go!

Welcome!

So this is my first post! :)
I will start with the reason I have created this blog; I work in the fitness industry and have followed my own weight loss journey over the past year and a half, losing 15kg. Although I have now reached a stage where I have achieved my goals of reaching a healthy size and weight. I need a new goal, another achievement to work towards. I recently noticed some of the girls around my gym preparing for bodybuilding competitions in the 'Sports Model' section. Now these girls are amazing! Inspiration came from right there, I wanted to do that too! I want to challenge my body and my mind, in order to compete as an athlete, and also to look as amazing as they do! My goal is to compete next year, and really achieve something for myself. This blog will follow my journey to this place and beyond, I will update posts of my diet, my workouts, my inspirations, and all of my efforts in preparing my body and mind to making my dreams into plans.
Learn, Be Inspired, Smile, Love and Never, never, never, never give up! <3 Rach
